Terry taught herself to play guitar at the age of 10, and has played flute since elementary school. In 2002, Terry completed her studies in the cantorial certification program from the Ma'alot Seminary in Rockville, Maryland. A tutor of b'nei mitzvah at Har Shalom and Tikvat Israel for many years, she also teaches adult classes in Jewish liturgy and practice. Terry writes and performs original Jewish and folk music, and composes melodies for prayers and texts from the liturgy. Her lifelong love of folk music and song, combined with a profound respect and appreciation for Hebrew texts, permeate her superb compositions. Terry moved to upstate New York in 2007, and although she will no longer be singing with us, her presence and influence on the band will continue to be felt through her original melodies, which currently comprise nearly half of our repertoire.
Marcia Bronstein (piano)Marcia comes from a family tradition steeped in Jewish music and theater. Her father's family performed in theater and film during the Golden Age of Jewish vaudeville. On her mother's side, the talent ran towards the cantorial and scribal arts. Marcia began studying piano at the age of 5. She plays piano and keyboard with the klezmer band Eine Kleine Tikva and serves as the accompanist for the Tikvat Israel Choir. Wendy Morrison (accordion, whistles, concertina, banjo, vocals)Wendy has played piano since age 5, adding on numerous other instruments as an adult. She currently plays accordion with two klezmer bands, Klezmos and Klezcentricity. Wendy has long been a mainstay of the DC area folk music scene as a performer, dance accompanist, studio musician, and workshop leader. She teaches music and Hebrew literacy to adults and children. Her liturgical and instrumental compositions spring from a deep understanding and love of traditional music and dance.
Richard Seidel (Bass fiddle, cello, vocals)Rich Seidel has many years of experience playing jazz and traditional music on acoustic bass. He plays with Klezcentricity and The Unusual Suspects (a folk/country band) where he also plays piano and guitar.
David Julian Gray (Oud, guitar, mandolin, dumbek, clarinet, vocals)
Our multi-instrumentalist DJG is the founder of Klezcentricity, one of the most exciting and creative klezmer ensembles working today. He began his career as a founding member of The Klezmorim, whose recordings and concerts in the 1970s and '80s ignited the international revival of klezmer, the dance band music of Eastern European Jewry. David's tasty tenor saxophone is occasionally heard with DC's New Orleans style jazz and blues band, Barrelhouse Brawl. Photo by P.
