The damage here is worse because the button rods are all plastic, and quite flexible. This is unusual -- normally they are all metal. No doubt the plastic rods make for a more lightweight accordion, and the plastic will never rust , corrode, or bind. However, the fact that no Italian accordions are made this way might give one pause - they are the experts in accordion design and construction, and they've been doing it successfully since the middle part of the 19th century. . .
