Photo Essay: How to Secure the Basses

Even though the accordion will have to be disassembled for repair at the receiving end, I still need to reassemble the bass cover to protect the mechanism from further damage during the return shipment. The first step is to put the bass cover back on, and as I do this I need to position it so that the air button will go into its hole. This is not always easy when the button is mounted on a loosely jointed lever. I sometimes use a long forceps to hold the button upright while positioning the cover, then I release the button when it pops through its hole. This accordion has a nice design for the air button: it is mounted directly onto a spring, which holds it upright, so reassembly is a snap.
