Photo Essay: How to Secure the Basses

Here you get a closeup look at the rod pins (the plastic parts sticking out from the sides of the rods) and the metal pipes that lead inside to the bass valve mechanisms. When the rod presses down on its pipes, it engages those valves, and the bass reeds sound. Springs keep the valves closed when the buttons are at rest.
