Photo Essay: How to Secure the Basses

Time to reattach the bass strap. Sometimes this final step can be frustrating. It isn't always easy to get the long bass strap screw to go into the receiving threads inside the adjusting mechanism. The most important thing to remember is which direction to rotate the wheel - if you spin it in the wrong direction, the threads will never catch the screw! Remember that from this perspective, when you were removing the strap, you rotated the wheel upwards, (that is, your hand made an upward movement against the wheel). So now to reassemble the strap, your hand should move DOWNWARDS against the wheel to spin it. Push in slightly on the strap as you rotate the wheel, to help it engage.

The nice thing about sending an accordion out after bracing the basses is, you don't really have to reattach the bass strap. You can leave it loose and save the person on the other end the extra step of loosening it before removing the cover to unbrace the basses. They have to do this anyway, or they can't play the accordion.
